Aura’s Focus On Frogs

From dedicated underpasses through to specially created ponds and wetlands, Aura is committed to protecting and improving the habitat for some of the community’s smallest residents…frogs!

Aura celebrates being home to some of Australia’s rarest acid frogs, including the Wallum Sedgefrog, so the community has implemented a number of green initiatives to help nurture this threatened species.

Stockland worked with leading Australian frog experts to develop an Acid Frog Management Plan for Aura. Part of this plan is to rehabilitate over 152 hectares of degraded former pine plantation lands, creating dedicated conservation buffers and movement corridors. Stockland is also contributing $500,000 to scientific Wallum Sedgefrog research to assist with the conservation of the species.

Throughout Aura, 150 dedicated frog breeding ponds have been created to-date, with the first successful breeding program of the Wallum Sedgefrog in Australia for constructed ponds.

At Aura, the establishment of frog habitat is pivotal to our broader conservation strategy, with up to 700 hectares—equivalent to one third of the site—dedicated to rehabilitation and protection. This initiative solidifies Aura’s reputation as a ‘city in nature,’ promoting increased biodiversity and ecological richness within the local area.

The rehabilitation of previously degraded lands, including the creation of acid frog habitat, underscores our community’s unwavering commitment to sustainability. It’s one of many initiatives that have earned Aura the prestigious 6 Star Greenstar Communities rating from the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA), affirming our dedication to environmental stewardship and community wellbeing.
