Flora
With its tongue-twisting name, the Leptospermum juniperinum, is a species of broom-like shrub that is endemic to eastern Australia.
Commonly known as the prickly tea tree, this species has sharply pointed leaves, white flowers usually arranged singularly on short side shoots and small fruit that remain on the plant when mature.
The tree’s prickly foliage provides refuge for small birds, whilst its white (and pink in rare cases!) flowers are a pollen and nectar source for small insects including moths and butterflies.
Prickly tea tree seeds are only shed after adversity, such as drought, fire or injury.
