With their distinctive brownish-orange shells and dark bands along their bodies, brown tiger prawns are commonly located throughout Australian waters.

These prawns play a major role in marine ecosystems as both prey and predators, feeding on small fish, algae, plankton and organic debris. They are consumed by larger fish, sea birds and crustaceans such as crabs.

Typically living in shallow waters, brown tiger prawns are commonly located in coastal waters, estuaries and seagrass meadows; where they burrow for protection in sandy or muddy waters.
