Fauna / Marine Life
Barramundi are one of Australia’s most iconic fishes, growing to a whopping 1.8m long and weighing up to 60kg.
Highly adaptable, this fish can thrive in fresh and saltwater environments, from rivers through to coastal regions throughout the world. Juveniles can be found in nursery groups amongst the root systems of mangroves.
Barramundi is an indigenous loan word from our First Nations peoples’ language of the Rockhampton area, meaning “large-scaled river fish”.
